A day of firsts

Today we went to get your first haircut done at the salon.  You were looking pretty scraggly.  I made the appointment Monday and since then had been hyping it up: "You're going to get your hair cut by Lori just like Mama does! You get to ride in a chair that goes up and down.  She's going to make you look beautiful!"  You were excited and told Shawnie and Daddy about it yesterday and today.  You were excited when we got there, you were ok getting in the chair, but when Lori went to put the cape around you, you got a little anxious (even though it had penguins on it).  She trimmed up your bangs and evened out the rest of your hair.  You were a trooper once she started cutting: no tears and you kept very still.  Everyone there though you were so adorable and loved your hair.

Afterwards, we went to lunch and then to Toys 'R Us to get James something for his birthday.  It was raining today and you made me use my umbrella to get into the salon (even though we were 4 feet from an overhang).  As we were wandering Toys 'R Us, we passed by some umbrellas for you.  You liked the Minnie one, the Cinderella one, and the Tiana one (from "Princess and the Frog").  You decided to go with that one.  It wasn't raining when we left the store but you wanted to use it anyway.  You also wanted to use it in the car and in the house, so we had to have a talk about when the appropriate time to use an umbrella actually is.  I promised after your nap if it was raining that we'd go for a walk so you could use your umbrella.

On our walk, it wasn't raining very hard - barely misting.  As we were walking down the street, you'd lower the umbrella in front of your face so you'd get a little wet.  You'd squeal, "It's raining!" and put the umbrella back above your head giggling.  It was pretty funny.
