The eve of 16 months

When I first had you, my intent was to write a lot on here and/or in my journal in order to remember as many small details as possible. I don't think I've come even close, which saddens me. I'll try to capture a few here.

You were home all day with your dad and when I got home you were very much Mumma's girl. We sat in your Great Grandma's rocking chair and rocked and watched Phineas and Ferb with dad. After it was over, you and I just rocked some more and interacted saying different sounds and pointing out different body parts. I can't even capture how I felt during that, but it was the highlight of my day for sure.

Tonight we were cleaning up toys upstairs before coming downstairs. I put you on picking up books. You picked up "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?" by Dr. Seuss that Aunt Kate got you. Usually when you pick it up you say, "Moo," and then bring it to us to read. I was picking up other toys and I hear you say, "Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh....who, who." I look over and you were on the page with the rooster and the owl and making their noises as best as you could. We sat down and started at the front. I didn't say a word but you made nearly all of the noises. Also, when we get to knocking on the door you tap your head like I do when I read it to you. I'm always so surprised by how much you know. You could be just going along the normal track, but I don't know what is expected out of kids your age, and I'm just blown away by how smart you seem.

You are not a huge fan of getting your diaper changed currently. You tell us when you "poo poo", but you would live with it in your pants if we let you. I tried taking a few of your stuffed animals, laying them on the changing pad, pretending to change their diaper. Tonight you had your doll downstairs and were about to put her in the stroller. You stopped, said, "Poo poo," laid the doll on the floor, and rubbed where the diaper would be. I busted out laughing! I've only shown you that twice! Again, so smart!

I need to sit down with my journal and make a list of all the words you say. I'm thinking you're up to 30 at least. You can almost say "I love you" and you've begun signing "thank you". I'm glad teaching you signs hasn't impeded your word development. We love you so much!
