Christmas Festivities

Our Christmas festivities were not limited to Christmas eve and day. Uncle Nate, Aunt Kate, and Spencer were in Michigan for the holidays. The Sunday before Christmas we drove down to visit them. We were going to Fraser to visit with some friends I played volleyball with in high school and their kids. I decided to have us pop in on Kate and Nate so we could see them for a little longer this break.

The Tuesday before Christmas we drove to Uncle Nate's parents' house in Charlotte to have a TACK (Teryn, Andrea, Callie, and Kate) reunion along with our kids. This was the first time we had been with Teryn since your dad and I got married. There was a falling out, but through the magic of Facebook, we were able to reconnect, apologize, and forgive. The time together was great and just like old times. It was like we had been talking for all these 5 years. We attempted to take a picture holding each other's kids but you weren't having it. Andrea has Spencer, Kate has Shiloh, and Teryn is holding Kate's new baby-in-waiting.

Wednesday we drove to Grandma's house and stayed over night. Thursday I was going to a reunion lunch with some other friends from high school. Now that you're mobile you don't like to sit for any length of time so I was going to have Grandma baby sit you for the first time. Great Aunt Marilyn, Great Uncle Denny, and Jason and TJ weren't going to make it for Christmas Eve breakfast so they came over Thursday morning to do gifts along with Great Grandpa. You and TJ helped each other open each other's gifts. You liked his train set pieces and he liked your groceries and grocery cart.

Thursday after lunch I took you to Great Grandpa's. I made dinner for us and Great Uncle Denny came over too. You had 2 more gifts there to open: a play house for the back yard and a play table with a couple chairs.

Friday was Christmas Eve. After waking up we packed up and went to Grandma's house for breakfast and more gifts. She and Bobby got you a rocking horse which you love. You can't get on it by yourself but you can make it go back and forth and you know where to press its ears so the head moves up and down.

After breakfast we packed up and went to Nana and Grandpa's house for dinner. Uncle TJ was there. You got a "Potsy" cooking pot and vegetables from Grandpa and Nana. You were showing Uncle TJ how to cook. You also got a toothbrush in your stocking. You wanted to play with that more than anything. You kept walking around to everyone brushing their hair with it. We finally convinced you to open other things when we hid the toothbrush.

We came home Christmas Eve night. You were all out of sorts from sleeping and napping other places. Now you're back to crying for a minute or two before going to bed or down for a nap. You woke up a few times after we got back Christmas Eve night. That night your dad and I put together the table that Great Aunt Marilyn and Great Uncle Denny got you. Then we went to bed so Santa could arrive.

Christmas morning we woke up and had breakfast. Then we went downstairs to see what Santa brought you. By now you had figured out the whole gift opening process. You picked up a gift and took it to dad so he could help you open it. You got some Legos, a drum with some musical instruments, a few books, a couple puzzles, and a hammer and peg set. All in all your Christmas was very full. You are one lucky and loved girl. There are many children who don't get a fraction of what you got. I hope you grow up to appreciate it all.

On a few other notes, you're mimicking a lot lately: colors, names. You say "hi", "bye", "all done", and "down" clearly in addition to all the other words you have. You have also taken to pointing at things and you point correctly too. You are very right handed though - not much is done with your left at all. Dad's hopes of a 6 foot tall, left-handed setter are quickly disappearing (not that you would have made 6 feet with my genes so...)
