Potter Park Zoo

Yesterday we went to Potter Park Zoo. You know a lot of animal sounds and can identify a lot of animals by their picture, so we were pretty sure you'd be into the zoo and you were. The first thing we saw were the sea otters. They have the exhibit built so that you can see under water while they're swimming. You thought that was awesome and laughed super hard every time they swam by.

After that we went to see the wolves. As we were walking away, you held your hand out to another little girl who was walking back towards the wolves and her family. She took your hand and started to walk away with us. I tried to explain to you she wasn't with us and had to go back to her family. At that point her dad called her. I said to him, "I think our kid is trying to abduct your daughter!" He laughed and said, "Can I give you the other one instead?" The other one was another girl but closer to your age.

I'm not sure whether your favorite animal was the llama, lion, monkey, or penguins. When you saw the llamas, you immediately recognized them from the Llama Llama books and kept saying "Llama, llama." Another gentlemen was there with his young son. He had bought some pellets to feed them and he was nice enough to give you a few pellets to feed the llamas. You didn't want to leave them.

They had a bunch of parakeets in a cage that you could walk into and they could fly around you. You giggled in there too. Of course, you're used to Grandma's house and her birds and just wanted to pet them.

Then we saw the penguins. I didn't think we were going to be able to leave them! You loved watching them swim around and pop up. You said, "Hello penguin" to them. You wouldn't take your eyes off them. We had to tear you away. From there we went to the lion and got to hear him roar. You roared back. I think you liked the monkeys too since you kept asking for them after we walked away.

We spent a good 2 hours there. I can't wait to take you to the Detroit zoo to see some larger animals as well.
