Learning Curve

Well, tomorrow you are 3 weeks old, and what a 3 weeks it has been! We've been figuring things out together with some crying here and there (often you're crying but sometimes I am). You definitely did not get my appetite: you'll often fall asleep while eating which is really irritating to me. I pull you away and then you wake up and want to eat again. You do NOT like having a dirty diaper, which we're hoping will make potty training easier. You're sleeping pretty well at night, often in at least 3 hour stretches and sometimes even 5 hour stretches. You LOVE being toasty warm. The books say to dress babies as we would dress ourselves plus one layer. You want the extra layer and at least one blanket. You're not a fan of your swing unless you're already asleep. You like your Boppy chair a bit more - you'll sit in it for a while, even if you're awake. I think it's because you're flatter in the Boppy chair. Hopefully once you have a little more control over your head you'll like the swing better.

You tend to have a fussy period every day. It varies as to when. We've figured out that the fussy periods are less if I don't drink orange juice or my tea with peppermint in it. I think there are other foods I eat that make you upset but I haven't figured out which yet. One thing that makes you happier through this fussy period is singing and dancing. You and I sing and dance for about an hour every day. So far you're a fan of Michael Buble and Dave Matthews (the "Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King" CD). That CD was the one I listened to A LOT when I was pregnant and your hearing was first developing. I had a theory to see if that music would calm you when you came out. Sure enough, it does! Granted it could be because it's mixed with the vibrations of my singing, but I'll take it either way. Your dad sings to you too. He sings "If all the raindrops were (some candy)" and the song about the log in the hole at the bottom of the sea.

I think our favorite thing right now is when you begin to fall asleep or even right after you eat you start to get these smiles. It's very nice. You get hiccups often. The other day you were crying and you also had hiccups so you were crying after every hiccup. It was really sad.
