First ultrasound

So the first ultrasound puts us at about 13 weeks. The tech estimated your arrival date as October 28, but the doctors are leaving it on the 31 anyway. It's all plus or minus two weeks anyway (which as a math person, being off 5% either way I guess isn't that bad) so 3 days doesn't make a whole lot of difference. We heard your heartbeat (162 bpm) and found out you were about 6 cm long. The tech could have figured out your sex but you were stubborn and wouldn't spread your legs! We'll have to wait 7 to 8 more weeks. Your dad said 162 put you in girl range (apparently girl heartbeats are usually 140 or higher). You were pretty active - kicking and somersaulting away. I was very glad I couldn't feel your kicks! The tech said boys typically weren't that active so she thinks you might be a girl, but again, she couldn't tell definitively. We wanted to take some video of you moving around as well, but your dad was so excited at seeing you on the screen that he forgot he had the video camera in his pocket! Poor thing though, you had horrible hiccups! Dad said you took after me in that you did nothing to make them stop and they looked pretty rough. Dad said the first thing he'll teach you is "watermelon" to stop the hiccups (which only works the first few times anyway so then I'll teach you how to make them actually stop every time).
