You aren't crawling on hands and knees yet, but you are Army crawling more often. You used to have to hold on to someone's fingers to pull yourself forward. You can now do it on your own so you pull yourself towards toys. I tried to get video, but it's really hard to encourage you to move forward and keep the camera pointed where it should so half the time I'm cutting off your head or something. You're much more interested in smaller things you can manipulate. On your jungle mat there is a tail that is felt that pops up from the zebra. You'll sit and finger that for a minute or so. Same with the ribbon rays of sunlight on the sun.
We're also spending more time outside and you love it! We put you in your Bumbo chair on a blanket and you look around or watch the dogs or play with some toys. In addition to having infant skin, you have Dad's skin so we make sure to cover you in sunscreen and put hats on you. I had you outside with me one day over spring break. I was doing some work in our garden. You were in your Bumbo chair and I had to run to the garage to get something. I came back and you were no longer in your Bumbo chair - you were on your back on the blanket with your feet in your mouth. You really are a Houdini!
Your tooth has come up a little bit more. You had been waking up a lot in the night. You'd let us rock you to sleep (you're even starting to let Dad rock you to sleep) but would then wake up crying once we put you back in your crib. Last night you slept through the night. We put you back in a sleep sack on top of the sleeper, under the nice quilt Mama Green made you, and I warmed the sheet up with the heating pad. You slept from 8:30 till 7:30. It was so nice! Dad and I needed that, so thank you!
You ended up getting some banana last night for the first time. We had started you on rice cereal, but you got eczema, either from the rice or the little bit of formula we mixed with it the first time. I think it was the rice. We might try some when you're a bit older and if it comes back, no wheat products until you're a year. That's really no big deal. We were going to wait until 6 months for the rest of the solids, but I was making dinner last night and you were getting angry in your high chair. I wasn't able to sit and nurse you, and I'm not sure that I had a bunch of milk at that point anyway, so I mashed up some bananas. You love to eat! Since you're already started on them, I made up the sweet potatotes today for you. I also have extra pears and an acorn squash to put together for you. I hope we don't mess up your insides, but it is only 2.5 weeks early. The main part of your diet is still breastmilk, like the experts say, so I think you'll be fine.
Last night while giving you the banana, I looked at the calendar to see how many weeks away we were from your 6-month mark. I realized then that your half year birthday falls on your Great Grandma's (on my side) birthday. You won't ever get to meet her, but she would have LOVED you, so I'm so happy you'll share that day with her.
